There is a lot of controversy when it comes to differentiating a milkshake from a smoothie. Therefore, we will simplify with the word smoothie all that drink where all the ingredients have been crushed to form a thicker liquid than juice or liquid.
The smoothie is a thick drink that, although it can be taken hot, is usually consumed cold where fresh fruit or vegetables are crushed with a liquid base such as water, ice, fruit juice, milk or yogurt, ice cream, etc.
It can also be made by whipping a scoop of ice cream into a glass of cold milk until you get a creamy, frothy liquid.
Some smoothies are healthier than others. It all depends on whether they are more natural or carry other processed ingredients and/or with added sugars.
The fruit and vegetable smoothie is more nutritious and satiating than juice, as it contains all the fiber, which slows the absorption of sugar into the blood. However, the fiber content slows the absorption of nutrients.
A hand mixer (minipimer), glass mixer or high-powered glass mixer is necessary.
Fruit and/or vegetable smoothies with or without added milk have the following benefits:
- Cleaning of the digestive tract
- Satisfying
- Energetic
- Regulates blood glucose levels.
